There is a short stretch of an old drover’s lane on the outskirts of our village. Over the years the path has been so well trodden by people and livestock, travelling between the levels and the Polden ridge above, that it has formed a Holloway.
This hidden world is guarded by wrens and despite their shrill alarm calls (they are angered by our intrusion into their world) it is lovely just to sit quietly listening to the distant sounds of village life. Your mind wanders, footsteps treading softly, cart wheels creaking, whispers of past journeys….
This woodblock is carved from wych elm and aims to capture the magic of this mysterious place.
